Bannerman Park was born as a gift to the people of St. John’s from Governor Bannerman in the late 1800s.
It’s been a long time since Bannerman Park has had any sort of major renovations so in 2003 the City commissioned a Master Plan to revitalize and upgrade the park and in 2010, the Bannerman Park Foundation was formed to raise $3.2 million and implement the Master Plan. The City matched all funds raised by the Foundation and on June 21, 2015, the Bannerman Park Foundation and the City of St. John’s officially declared that the money had been raised and revitalization and upgrade had been completed and this wonderful green space in the heart of the city was now ready to be enjoyed by generations to come.
